Welcome to RNote (“RNote”, “we”, “our”, or “us”). These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of our website and related services (the “Service”).

By using RNote, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Use of the Service

RNote is an online note‑taking tool designed for simplicity and convenience. You may use the Service for lawful purposes only and in accordance with these Terms.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account.

Some features of the Service allow you to share notepad content with others, either via a public read‑only link or by inviting specific people to collaborate. You are solely responsible for the content you choose to share and for who you share it with.

2. Acceptable Use Policy

You agree not to use the Service to create, store, share, or distribute (including via public share links or collaborator invites) any content that:

  • Is illegal, or promotes, facilitates, or instructs on illegal activity, under the laws of England and Wales or of the jurisdiction in which you or your recipients are located;
  • Infringes or misappropriates the intellectual property, copyright, trademark, or other proprietary rights of any third party, including pirated software, media, or other unlicensed copyrighted works;
  • Constitutes child sexual abuse material, or otherwise sexually exploits or endangers minors;
  • Is defamatory, harassing, threatening, abusive, or intended to intimidate, stalk, or incite violence against any person or group;
  • Contains malware, phishing content, or is otherwise intended to compromise the security or integrity of any system or account;
  • Is used to distribute spam, or to impersonate any person, organisation, or entity in a misleading or deceptive manner; or
  • Violates the privacy of any individual, including by sharing another person's personal or sensitive information without their consent.

We do not actively monitor the private contents of notepads. However, where content is made available via a public share link, we reserve the right to review, disable sharing on, or remove that content, and to suspend or terminate the responsible account, if we become aware of a violation of this policy - including in response to a report or takedown request as described below.

3. Data Storage and Availability

RNote automatically saves your notes and related content to online storage systems. RNote will protect the contents of notepads from unauthorized use, access, or disclosure in the same manner that we would use to protect our own confidential information of a similar nature and in no event with less than a reasonable degree of care.

The Service is provided on a “best effort” basis and may experience downtime, interruptions on occasion.

3.1. Access

You control access to the content of your notepads. RNote considers the contents of notepads to be confidential to you, as set forth in Section 3, and RNote personnel will not access notepad content without your consent except in the following circumstances:

  • to assist the notepad owner with a support matter (with their explicit consent); or
  • to comply with our legal obligations if we have reason to believe the contents are in violation of the law.

4. No Liability for Data Loss

By using RNote, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • The creator and operators of RNote are not responsible or liable for any loss, corruption, or unavailability of data.
  • You are solely responsible for maintaining your own backups of any information you consider important.
  • The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without any warranty of any kind.

5. Disclaimer of Warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, RNote disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non‑infringement.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error‑free.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted under UK law, RNote and its creator(s) shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising out of or in connection with your use of (or inability to use) the Service, including, without limitation, any loss of data, profits, or business opportunities.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

7. Modifications to the Service or Terms

We may modify, update, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice.

We may also revise these Terms periodically. The updated Terms will take effect immediately upon posting. Continued use of the Service constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

8. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to the Service at any time, for any reason, without prior notice or liability. This includes, without limitation, disabling public share links or suspending accounts found to be in breach of our Acceptable Use Policy.

9. Reporting Abuse and Takedown Requests

If you believe that content shared via RNote - including content available through a public share link - infringes your copyright or other intellectual property rights, violates your privacy, or otherwise breaches our Acceptable Use Policy, please contact us using the details in Section 11 below.

To help us investigate your request promptly, please include:

  • A description of the content and, where possible, the specific URL of the shared notepad;
  • An explanation of why the content is unlawful, infringing, or in breach of these Terms;
  • Your contact details; and
  • For copyright complaints, a statement that you are the rights holder or are authorised to act on their behalf, and a good‑faith statement that the use is not authorised.

On receipt of a valid request, we will review the reported content and, where appropriate, disable public access to it and/or suspend the associated account, without prior notice to the account holder. We may also disable or remove content that we identify ourselves as being in breach of this policy, even absent a report.

We may share the details of a takedown request with the affected account holder, and reserve the right to reject requests that we determine, in our reasonable discretion, are not valid or are made in bad faith.

10. Governing Law

These Terms and any dispute or claim arising from them (including non‑contractual disputes) shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.

If you access RNote from outside the UK, you are responsible for complying with local laws where applicable.
